Trinamool Chief Mamata Banerjee, who is on an indefinite hunger strike, said on Monday that the Kolkata government and Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee would be responsible if she died.
On the 22nd day of her hunger strike to protect the interests of the Singur farmers, Mamata said that only her death can save the farmers from the clutches of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.
"There is no exit for me now. I have closed all doors. And both the Centre and the state government are unwilling to give me emergency windows to jump out. So I believe the government would be responsible for my death," said an emotional Mamata.
Has Mamata Banerjee developed suicidal tendencies? Mamata Banerjee has been telling her party leaders and family members that if she cannot manage a respectable exit from the hunger strike and ensure the return of the lands forcibly taken from the farmers, she would prefer to die.
"Things are very serious. God forbid if any thing happens to her, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will be solely responsible for it. And we bet that this will push back industrialisation in Bengal by 100 years. It is time for the CM to act and save the situation," said Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Trivedi.
Dinesh held talks with Rajya Sabha MP Mukul Roy and asked him to keep the drip and ambulance ready in case Mamata collapses on the stage. "We know the first 15 minutes is crucial. She has to be administered the fluid immediately or else anything can happen," said Mukul Roy, who is unable to bring his leader out of the hunger strike.
Mamata's death wish comes after her meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's emissary, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi, failed to yield any solution on Sunday evening.
