The Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta (IIM-C) will be making merry this Christmas with the usual gala reunion of its alumni at its Joka campus from December 22. For the first time, the reunion will be spread over three days instead of one. In another first, the meet will highlight Indian folk artistes from West Bengal by organising performances for the international audience of alumni from five continents.

The revelry will centre on a Christmas-day panel discussion on a serious topic what should constitute an MBA education.

The annual Alumni reunion, titled `Reminiscence', will put together guest lectures, professional-level performances by the choreography team, the dramatics cell and JBS-BaroC, the in-house band.

Students said this year's reunion will focus on the Class of 1981, with the guest list including the likes of Sunil Duggal, CEO of Dabur India.

IIM-C, the oldest of the six IIMs in the country, draws its inspiration from the success of similar initiatives of elite B-schools like the Harvard Business School (HBS), which has nearly 40000 alumni spanning 70 countries.

Student said alumni networks help students in every way from bagging record salaries at placements to later in their careers.

They said IIMC has the largest and most influential alumni network in the country. The list includes names like Pepsi CEO Indra Nooyi (11 th batch), Kellog School's Prof Mohanbir Sawhney, and scholar Ramachandra Guha.

Members of the alumni cell said that, over the years, the alumni have been very generous and have contributed significantly towards some of the activities of the institute, the most recent being their sponsoring the gymkhana last year.

On Christmas day, apart from the panel discussion, the director and the dean will felicitate the alumni.

Capping it will be an all-night performance by JBS Baro-C, the IIM-C band, beginning on Sunday night ending at dawn on December 26.
