West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) today set up a camp at Singur, the place where Tata Motors is going to set up its small car manufacturing unit.

The twin aims behind setting up the camp include getting the names of people registered who want to work during construction of the factory and also those who want to join the training in automobile engineering to be imparted by the Tatas.

``While today 50 people have got their names registered to take part in the construction of the factory, 200 people have applied to participate in the training programme in automobile engineering,'' Sabyasachi Sen, principal secretary, department of Commerce and Industries, today said.

He also said that in both the categories, priority will be given to those who have lost land to give way to the car project. `` Of course people from other districts can come over, but priority will be given to local people. And for verification on domicility we will examine things like voter identity cards,'' Sen further said.

The secretary also said that the process of distributing cheques among farmers at Singur continued in full swing. ``We hope this will be over soon,'' Sen said.
