This morning the city also experienced a shortage of 100 MW owing to technical problems at its Budge Budge generating station, which were rectified around noon today.
According to a CESC spokesman, all-out efforts are being made to procure power from outside the state. Through the help of Power Trading Corporation 100 MW has been negotiated which will be available from tomorrow. It is reliably learnt that this power has been bought at a very high cost.
Last evening the shortfall in the CESC area was around 160 MW in spite of the fact that CESC's own generating units produced around 990 MW. It is expected that the situation will be restored to normal in a couple of days.
A CESC spokesman said: "We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused to our consumers."
