WBREDA know-how for energy centreBy djain128, Section Electricity
After Karnataka, it is now the turn for Maharashtra to fall back on West Bengal for technical expertise on renewable energy.
Last week, the industry and commerce minister of Karnataka came for studying investment scenario and restructuring of PSUs. This time officials from the Centre and Maharashtra arrived for technical expertise in renewable energy. The Maharashtra government is to set up a renewable energy centre in Nagpur city on 30 acres of land and the total cost of the project is about Rs 8 crore. A team of officials from the ministry of non-conventional energy and renewable energy department of Maharashtra met the managing director of West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency. "They requested us for technical expertise to set up the renewable centre in Nagpur city and WBREDA in the process will earn a few lakh rupees as consultancy fees and also for making detailed project report (DPR),'' said Mr SP Gon Chowdhury, MD, WBREDA. He said a committee would be formed comprising officials from the Union ministry, Maharashtra power department and WBREDA and Mr Gon Chowdhury would be the chairman of the committee. The centre will have different wings dealing on renewable energy. While one wing will deal with bio-diesel and future eco-friendly transport system, the other wing will have flourishing food court but no conventional energy will be used for cooking the food. He said in the food courts some eateries will prepare the food in solar cooker, others in bio-diesel gas or with the help of producer gas. Apart from these, there will be a children's corner which will focus on the energy scenario in 2050 -- an age when the entire world has moved into a clean technology as fossil fuel like coal and petroleum products will be on the verge of extinct, only various forms of renewable energies will be on use. Mr Gon Chowdhury said that plantation of jetropa or bio-diesel plant and mechanism of operating hybrid vehicle will be introduced. He said a vehicle would have dual mechanism to be operated either in battery and also in bio-diesel. The vehicles can also use fuel cell for driving the vehicles. He said WBREDA would soon launch a new hardware to synchronise and monitor the ride to Mars at the Energy Park this October, probably before the Pujas.
"The existing capsule which is being used for the `Journey to Sun' rides will be utilised for landing on `Mars'. This capsule will dock with the space shuttle to be added for the rest of the `journey' to the red planet's replica, the MD said.
He said: "We have to transfer this technology to them as per request and, moreover, they will also have a computer-simulated journey from `Ocean to the Himalayas.' Here, the people will get into an aircraft which will take them to the ocean to see transformation of power from tidal waves and then the aircraft will fly to the Himalayas to witness mini-hydel projects from springs.''
