Kolkata, June 15: A blast rocked Bowbazar area in central Kolkata today, triggering tension, while banned firecrackers were seized from a truck and a godown, ahead of the June 19 Kolkata municipal corporation elections.
Kolkata police commissioner Prasun Mukherjee told mediapersons that some slippers were found in the area of the blast, close to the Basumati Sahitya Mandir. There was no casualty. Police collected splinters from the spot and started investigations.
The incident caused considerable tension in the area.
The police also seized banned firecrackers from a truck and a godown in the northern fringe of Cossipore.
Police sources said that the truck was intercepted on the B T Road and seized 300 firecrackers were seized. The crackers, known as 'chocolate bombs' are banned in West Bengal.
The crackers were concealed under a consignment of detergent powder.
