Thai Airways tempts city fliers with long-haul sopsBy Rajesh Kumar, Section Transportation
KOLKATA: A non-stop flight to New York in the shortest time, better air connectivity to Sydney and Los Angeles, and reduced airfare for several international destinations. These are among a platterful of offers laid out by Thai Airways in its efforts to cash in on the growing air traffic from the east.
"It is a vibrant market and almost 60 per cent of our passengers from the east undertake trips to long-haul destinations," said Thai Airways general manager (Kolkata) Krisnapong Srisinwarakool. Los Angeles, Australia, New Zealand and New York have emerged as the favourite destinations among travellers from Kolkata, prompting Thai Airways to make special plans for this segment. Topping the list are its plans to promote the non-stop flight to New York, beginning from May 1. Thai Airways' 215-seater Airbus A340-500 will provide a non-stop flight from Bangkok to New York, six days a week, in record 17 hours, unlike other Asian carriers which have a stopover and take over 20 hours of air travel. Passengers from Kolkata can fly to Bangkok (6:20) and take a connecting flight to New York post midnight (00:40 hours) and fly non-stop to New York.
With the city presently catering to almost 100 passengers every month on its long haul flight to Los Angeles, the demand for New York will be on the higher side too with business travellers among the frequent fliers, feels Thai Airways district sales manager (eastern India) S.C. Kapur. Promotional fares will be offered between May 1 and June 13 for those flying the long-haul sector.
Moreover, to provide better air connectivity and convenience to those travelling to Los Angeles, Australia and New Zealand, the airline has rescheduled its timings from March 27 to October 29. It has stretched the timings to an extra 25 minutes from its earlier schedule to give more time to passengers changing flights. Attractive fares are being lined up for those travelling to Hong Kong, China, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur too. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/msid-1062027,curpg-2.cms
